Housing

AALIM prides itself on offering a homestay option for all students which is safe, healthy, and immersive. We have a strong network of about 70 families, all of whom have homes with modern amenities with a bedroom for host students separate from communal spaces. Our host families also live within a 20-minute walking distance of the AALIM Center and receive regular training related to cultural norms and student diversity.

We ensure that host families provide our students both breakfast and an evening meal Monday through Friday, as well on weekends when there is no program travel. We coordinate with our host families to ensure that they adhere to the specific dietary needs of students and have weekly calls with them to ensure the ongoing success of the host stay experience. Host families enrich the study abroad experience by sharing their suggestions on sights to see in Meknes and across Morocco and conversing with students in Modern Standard Arabic and Darija about their studies and travels.

For students who do not wish to live with a host family, AALIM can provide guidance on apartment rentals, hotels, or other long-term stay options. Please be advised that students will be responsible for finalizing these arrangements and making payments to landlords or hotels.
