Getting Around

Meknes has a robust system of individual (petit) and shared (grand) taxis as well as local buses that connect all parts of the city. Petit taxis can be hailed from anywhere and will take students to whatever destination they specify — fares between most points in Meknes vary between 7dh and 20dh, depending on distance and timing. Grand taxis are shared between five to seven passengers and ferry individuals between specific stations or fixed points, with intra-city fares averaging around 5dh per passenger. All AALIM host families live within a 20-minute walk of the AALIM center, so most students will not need to rely on taxis or buses for their daily commute to school.

The city of Meknes is well-connected to the rest of Morocco via a convenient rail network and a wide array of intercity buses and shared taxis. Taking the train is a great way to get around Morocco, and service from Meknes’s two train stations (Gare el Amir and Gare Meknes Ville) connects the city to many points around the country.
